our confident moments, we would have said that we were being true to God’s call. At other times, we wondered. To be honest, we wanted to quit. As we evaluated our work, we knew that resources needed to be used wisely. But we could find no place in Scripture where a line was drawn between the cost expended and the number of new brothers and sisters added to the kingdom of God. As far as we were concerned, there was no such ratio. Despite hard words from friends and colleagues, we were driven by a
